President Trump’s Employer-Focused Administration: NLRB Acting Chair Philip Miscimarra

During his first month in office, President Trump has consistently left working people behind by selecting employer-focused individuals to lead his administration.  On January 23, 2017, President Trump continued this pattern by selecting Philip Miscimarra to serve as the acting chair of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

The NLRB is an independent federal agency that protects employees’ rights to organize and to determine whether to have unions as their bargaining representative. The agency also acts to prevent and remedy unfair labor practices.

President Obama selected a lifelong advocate for workers and their right to collectively bargain, Mark Pearce, as NLRB chair.  President Trump, to the contrary, selected someone to chair the NLRB, Philip Miscimarra, who previously worked for well-known employer-defense law firms, including Morgan Lewis & Bockius, LLP and Seyfarth Shaw, LLP.

With the White House filling its administration with employer-focused lawyers, employees will increasingly have to address workplace mistreatment, including illegal pay practices, on their own through consultation with lawyers who put workers first.
