The Tennessean reports that Wellness Solutions Geriatrics, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, has not paid at least 100 employees in two months due to a Medicare fraud investigation.
Wellness Solutions Geriatrics (WSG) stopped paying its employees in December but encouraged them to keep working so that elderly nursing home patients would not be left without care. Some workers are now owed as much as $20,000.
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has been investigating WSG for submitting false claims to Medicare for psychotherapy and other services that were not medically necessary. Investigators initially found that 92% of WSG’s Medicare claims should have been denied.
WSG is also under investigation by the Tennessee Department of Labor due to six complaints from employees who were not paid a total of $46,000.
